Disable CAPS LOCKS,WINDOWS key and more, How to disable them, "Tutorial"

Just something I wrote for my site, and told some folks here I would post when I was done. I hope it will help some of you. PAPAKID, I also used your little part and gave you credit. I hope you do not mind.

Before I start, I want to give this warning on what you can do to your computer. Messing with the registry can be bad. I know this firsthand. I made mistakes that prevented my system from starting, by trying to change the letters on the start key! I was able to fix it pretty easy by forcing my pc to start since I knew how. You may not be that lucky if you mess it up. So please do not tamper with anything you do not know about in the registry. This is a self-extracting file that should be safe even for the inexperienced, just trying to keep everyone safe.

You can't disable both the Windows keys or the Caps locks keys at the same time. 
It will reset the setting back to normal and won't work. Only one at a time. Sorry!


How to disable the Caps Locks key or make it work as another key.


The Caps Locks key.

If you have ever done any extensive typing, you may have been surprised to discover that half of your paragraph is in CAPS when it shouldn't be. Then you have to turn around and delete it and re-write it all! To some people, this has made them angry enough to want to grab a tool and remove the CAPS LOCKS key from their keyboard!

There is an easier and better way to do this without making holes in your keyboard. I will now give you a couple of ways to disable the key. One way prevents the key from working and the other makes it work as another key like "shift" or "num lock". There is also one way if you still want the key to work as it is to make it beep when pressed. This way you know when you hit it and can stop before it's too late. There are many ways around this problem. You get to choose what's best for you! 

Disable CAPS LOCKS entirely.

Compatibility.

This method of disabling the Windows key works with the following:

* Windows XP - Works with Pro or Home.
* Windows 2000 - Confirmed working on SP3 and greater. Should work for others.
* Windows NT - Does not work. Confirmed.
* Windows 95, 98, Me - Should not work. Untested


To disable the CAPS LOCKS key, I have found this registry edit will do the trick. I used the registry code I found and made it to where when you click it. It will auto-add it to your registry. This will make it simple for you. I hosted it on a file host. You can download it by clicking the link.

Restore Caps Locks(removes registry edit)


After you download and install it, restart your computer for the setting to take place.



Change CAPS LOCKS to the SHIFT key.

Compatibility.

This method of disabling the Windows key works with the following:

* Windows XP - Works with Pro or Home.
* Windows 2000 - Confirmed working on SP3 and greater. Should work for others.
* Windows NT - Does not work. Confirmed.
* Windows 95, 98, Me - Should not work. Untested


Use this download and open it to add it to your registry. If you decide you want to switch it back simply use the remove key.

After adding it to the registry restart for the setting to take place.

Tips for the Fumble Fingered.

Ever get into a furious typing session only to discover that you've typed half a paragraph in all caps? Your pinkie finger has betrayed you? There is a way to help prevent that. Make Windows play a sound when the Caps Lock key is pressed.

Here's how:

1. Open your PC's Control Panel and then Accessibility Options (In XP use Classic View).

2. On the Keyboard tab , click the Use Toggle Keys checkbox.

3. Click OK.

Now you'll hear a sound when you use Caps Lock and also Num Lock and Scroll Lock.

If you're a bit hard of hearing or need a visual warning for some other reason, try this:

1. Repeat step one above.

2. In the Sound tab ckick to check the Use SoundSentry checkbox.

3. Click the Settings button and select Flash active window in the Warning for windowed programs drop-down menu.

4. Click OK and you're done.

Now every time you hit Caps Lock or the other Lock keys, the currently active window will flash at you.  




Disable the Windows key (you can't disable the Caps Locks key and Windows key too, because it will reset the settings.)

To disable the Windows Key(s), download and install one of these files.

Disable both Windows Keys

Disable Left Windows Key

Disable Right Windows Key

Restore Windows Key(s)(removes registry edit)

Restart your computer for the settings to take place.
